The example of the housing cooperative De Warren in Amsterdam with Kim Otten.

Kim was living together with a bunch of friends in a temporary creative building. Because this place was only temporary and would be torn down, she felt the need to search for a permanent house together. A house where they could create, work and live together as a community. The idea of the housing cooperative was new in Amsterdam, and the first pilot project was just about to start. The group wrote a project plan, and won the tender. In five years they were able to realize their own sustainable, affordable and collective house: De Warren.

They designed their own dream building together with the 50 inhabitants, directed the whole building process and are now managing the building. In this learning session Kim will explain about the process; how they formed a solid group, set up an organization structure, made a business case and we’re able to get the project financed. She will tell how to design a house with such a big group, the building period with all of its challenges and finally what a dream it is to actually live there at the moment.

Get inspired and be ready to start creating your own dream house as a cooperative!
